Laravel applications are PHP processes. An artisan or composer update does not change the php-fpm binary that runs public/index.php.

Read the framework’s documented PHP requirement for the Laravel version you run before you jump branches. This site does not restate an unverified Laravel constraint. The vhost’s socket, often in a Forge, Ploi, or hand-written Nginx file, is the runtime to patch.
Remediation
Apply the fixed package for that socket on staging, run your test suite and a login flow, then repeat in production and restart FPM. Octane or a long-running worker must be restarted too, or it keeps the old code.
Nginx or Apache in front of Laravel is still only the proxy or the module loader. Follow the web server guide that matches the handler you found. Temporary PHP settings remain incomplete if the provider cannot patch this week. CISA’s 21 October 2026 alert said internet-facing PHP that cannot be updated should be taken offline until it can. That is a business decision for a store or a campus site, and it is the alternative to pretending the application update was enough.
