On Debian and Ubuntu:

apachectl -M | grep -E 'php|mpm_'

On RHEL-family systems, httpd -M is the usual command. php_module or php7_module means PHP is inside Apache. mpm_prefork_module is the MPM mod_php requires. proxy_fcgi_module without a php module means you are probably on FPM, and this guide is the wrong restart target.

The module’s package is the one to update. On Debian derivatives that is libapache2-mod-php followed by the version. Restart apache2 or httpd after installing it, then run the module list again and confirm the children started after the package timestamp.

Also search the vhost for php_value and php_flag. They matter for CVE-2026-109619 on mod_php. Cleaning them up is secondary to loading the patched module.
